Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between the PTX14GS and the PTX15GS?
The only difference between the two is the size of the included mirror. PTX14GS and PT14G have a mirror sized at 14”x14”. The PTX15GS and PT15G have a mirror sized at 12”x15”. The bodies of the Presidential Teleprompters are the same, and you can choose between a Standard Presidential without a monitor tray, or a Deluxe Presidential with a monitor tray.
  • Which size glass should I choose for my presidential?
The 14”x14” glass has a nice broad size and it doesn’t matter which way you orient it. The 12”x15” piece of glass can be used either vertically or horizontally. When placed horizontally it more directly matches the rectangular ratio of your monitor.
  • Can I shoot a camera through the Presidential Glass?
Yes. Each Presidential unit comes with a black shroud that is clipped to the rear of the glass of both the Deluxe and Standard Presidential Teleprompter models. This cloth can be draped around your camera to block any light interference from around your camera lenses. The glass of the Presidential model prompters is slightly thicker than that of the Quickprompt because they are not held in a frame, but is still has more than enough clarity to film through. You can remove the shroud if you’d like to use the teleprompter in an auditorium type of setting, where the camera is not behind the teleprompter and you want to remove the visual distraction of the black shroud.
  • How far away can I be from the Speech Prompter and still read it?
A person with average eyesight can comfortably sit or stand up to 20 feet from either of the Presidential models and still be able to read the text clearly. You can stand even further away from the prompter if you enlarge the font size of the text on your monitor screen and use fewer words per line of text.
  • Is there anything I need to plug in?
There is nothing on the speech teleprompter that needs to be plugged in. Our speech teleprompters work using a specialized reflective glass that is set to a 45 degree angle. The image from below the glass bounces off the glass, like a billiard shot, and reflects into the eyes of the reader in front of the speech teleprompter.
  • What is the best way to cart your teleprompters around?
We ship our Presidential Teleprompters in a sturdy cardboard box with Styrofoam and bubble wrap. Some people have used this as a temporary carrying case by cutting handles in the sides.
  • How do I set up a laptop with the Standard Presidential?
You may place a monitor on the floor, sized 20” or larger and it will reflect directly into the glass. Keep in mind that the size of the text may be slightly smaller due to the distance that the image has to travel from the monitor to the glass, i.e.: The farther away your monitor is, the smaller the reflection on the glass will appear. You can also use one of our Teleprompter Tables which adjusts to heights that suit your needs. If you have a narrow table about 3 or 4 feet tall, this will work as well.
  • Can I change the angle of the Presidential Glass?
Yes, but the angle of the glass in its clip is pre-adjusted to the optimum angle of approximately 45 degrees. You shouldn’t need to adjust this angle, but you can loosen the screw in the clip and change the angle of the glass if need be. Please be careful and support the glass! Or you can remove the glass first before adjusting the angle.
  • Can I adjust the angle of the monitor tray on the Presidential?
You can adjust the height of the tray but not the angle, because your monitor or laptop would then be able to slide off. There is a metal U-bolt that attaches the tray to the telescoping pole which prevents your monitor on the tray from slipping off. If this bolt is removed, your monitor weight is no longer supported
  • How do I control the scrolling script?
The text can be scrolled using a wireless keyboard, Griffin Powermate, or MIcrosoft Presentation Mouse 8000. You may want to have an assistant monitoring your speech while you talk so that you can focus on the delivery.
